Will You Carry Me? Leaning on God’s Promises

After walking around a theme part for six hours, my five-year old grandson, despite loving every ride he went on, was tired. His legs just couldn’t take one more step. He didn’t whine or cry, but his slow walking led his uncle to see his need and pick him up and carry him. As they approached me, I saw a smile on his little face,

.

Do we ever wish we could be carried? Not literally, unless our hike turned out to be more miles than we bargained for, but we want to be carried as we face another day.  Whether we battle loneliness, emotional or relational challenges, fears, or physical fatigue from overwork, we look for hope and help to carry us.

It’s available and within reach.

God sees our needs and promises to carry us.

The scriptures tell us He never lets us go; He carries us throughout our lifetime.

  • When we’re young: “He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm and carry them in His bosom” (Isaiah 40:11).

“…and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way which you have walked until you came to this place.” (Deuteronomy 1:31)

  • When we’re old: “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:

  • In any season: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10)He faithfully carries us,

Like my grandson who was enthusiastically carried and knew he couldn’t take another step, we have to ask and so, what’s our part?

Pray praise and acknowledge who God is—sovereign, faithful, and loving.

Pray requests for specific areas you need help: a change of focus and attitude. Perhaps filling with the Spirit so His fruit flows from you in that challenging relationship. Praying for direction  wisdom when you feel as if you are running in circles.

Pray thanks: gratitude for waking to another day -strength and health to walk, see, eat, and enjoy. Gratitude for yesterday’s strength, a friend who came alongside of you, a provision, or need met. Refreshment from grace and mercies that met you and the scripture you held onto..

Pray scripture–His promises and statements of truth—pray those in and for your life. Remembering His love is steadfast, He is faithful and loving in all His ways, and His grace is sufficient are just a few to encourage you.

God never walks out the door and leaves you alone, or lets an email go unanswered for days. He doesn’t ignore you because He’s too busy. He is present, caring, and faithful. He carries you all the days of your life. Over and over, in the pages of scripture and in our life,” God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”( Hebrews 13:5 NLT)

Being carried by the One who knows me best and loves me most.

That is real living and real hope from cradle to grave.

What beautiful truths, Marilyn. I love the comparison of your grandson’s uncle carrying him when he was tired. The verses that assure us He hears our prayer comfort me.

Such a blessing this morning. Thank you so much for this beautiful reminder. The amazing part is that sometimes I don’t even have to ask. God just sends someone my way, and often comes Himself, to take my hand, lift me up, and carry me to the destination He has prepared for me. Thank you and God’s blessings ma’am.

  5. Oh yes, I want to be carried. I think about the poem “Footprints” and I visualize Jesus carrying me every day. It’s hard to face a day without our Lord’s help.

The One who “knows me best and loves me most.” Love those words!

  7. Such comforting words, Marilyn. We all are in need of assurance during this time. Your scripture selections granted me hope–especially Isa 46 with the promise of love and care for us even when we are old. Thank you.
